FAQ

Reader questions, answered.

If you do not find your answer here, please write to the editors.

How do you choose the destinations you cover?

+

Every destination is proposed by an editor or a local contributor and then reviewed against three criteria: it should not already be widely covered, it should be worth a specific slow visit, and it should be robust enough to receive careful travellers without harm. We reject places where the fabric of the community would suffer from added attention.

Do you accept payment from destinations or tourism boards?

+

No. Editorial content is never paid for. When advertising appears, it is clearly labeled and kept in dedicated banner spaces separate from articles. We do not accept press trips whose itineraries are dictated by the host.

Where do the photographs come from?

+

Nearly all photographs on the site are original. When we occasionally license an image from an outside photographer, credit is given directly beneath the image. We do not use AI-generated imagery to represent real places.

How current is your practical information?

+

The date of most recent verification is noted at the bottom of every article. Prices, hours and transport details are checked in the week before publication and reviewed again at least every twelve months. If a business closes or a route changes, please let us know at editors@gtryp.com.

Why don't you write about famous cities?

+

Famous cities are already served by a very large industry of travel writing. Our contribution to those cities, when we make it, is the small overlooked corner rather than the well-known attraction. Alfama in Lisbon is a good example: we wrote about the quiet courtyards behind it, not the tram queue.

How can I recommend a place?

+

Send a short note to editors@gtryp.com with the place, why you think it is worth an article, and any personal knowledge you have of it. We read every suggestion but publish only a small fraction, and we may take months to visit.

How do I contact an editor?

+

Use the form on our contact page or write directly to editors@gtryp.com. For time-sensitive corrections, please put 'Correction' at the start of the subject line.

Is GTRYP a travel agency?

+

No. We are an editorial publication. We do not sell tours, book flights or arrange itineraries. Every practical recommendation is written to be followed independently.

What is your position on overtourism?

+

We are actively cautious. Some places we deliberately describe in general terms only, without the specific address. We ask readers to travel outside peak periods, in small groups, and to spend money at family businesses. See our About page for the fuller position.

Do you have a printed edition?

+

Not currently, though we release a printed field-notes booklet at the end of each year. It is available by subscription only and prints in small runs.
